Preliminary results are up on the website of the Jim McDonnell lake swim. I don't know where I got 7/11 before. But now I'm placed 5th of 6, and 60 of 107 total non-wetsuit, 1-mile swimmers. When my time is combined with the wetsuit competitors, I placed 148/294. And 17/24 in my age group. As you can see, many more wore wetsuits than not.
The nearest I got to fourth place was almost five minutes; some guy named Matt swam it in 26:23. The winner in my group swam it in 21:45. Quite fast in my book.
I've got a bit of time to knock off. Assuming I swam exactly one mile (not a chance), then my average 100 yard time was 1:46. Way above my last tested race pace of 1:31. However, with the weird pool I swim in in Moscow (about 17.5 yards per length), and the wavy, zig-zaggy course I swam in Audubon Lake, I was probably somewhere in between those two times. If I swam perfect and kept to my 1:31, I would have swum the mile in 26:40. I've got a lot of work to do for the next swim.
