I've blessed with having a cool wife, one who is active, and loves that I am (sorta) active. She recently completed a half-marathon on the frozen surface of the world's deepest lake, as my dear reader(s) know. She and I are now contemplating finding interesting runs for her and swims for me, and combining them as vacations.
I found an interesting swim on New Year's Day: The Strait of Magellan swim, a 3K ocean swim in, yes, the Strait of Magellan. How freaking cool would that be? We can use the Spanish we're going to take up when we return to the states (we started on Spanish with the kids some years ago, and two of our kids have taken Spanish here in school), and I could swim in the freaking strait. Cool.
But how about the marathons? We found an interesting one in France, where the aid stations serve wine instead of water. Sounds like hell to me (don't mind the wine, but the running?), but my wife is hankering for it. I have to find a swim nearby with respect to date and location. There are plenty of interesting marathons out there, just search for unique marathons. You'll find the arctic circle run up in Greenland. Or the Great Wall marathon. Seems there are plenty of unique running marathons out there. Perhaps we need a website for unique swimming marathons?
