Fembot and I got married in Denmark, the city of Vejle, specifically. Beautiful city with a great walking/pedestrian area. We chose that city to get married in only because it was easier to get married there than where we were (I jokingly called it the "Las Vegas of Europe"). We were living in Berlin at the time, and the requirements for getting married there were way too restrictive. Denmark required only three documents: military ID, birth certificate and leave paperwork. Oh, and they were very concerned about incest. (Fully six of the seven questions on the wedding application asked whether the applicant had had sexual intercourse with various familial relations.)
So, imagine my surprise when I found an open water swim in Vejle, Denmark! The Vejle Fjordsvøm is situated in lovely Vejle, on the Jutland peninsula of Denmark. The distance remains a mystery, but based on last year's results, I'm thinking it is a 1500m race.
Moot point. The timing is horrible. But perhaps next year I can take fembot and the monkey-children to the place where our everlasting love started...(insert sappy music here that would make fembot puke)
Vejle Fjord Svøm is 1300 meters. For more open water events in Denmark, please visit www.openwater.dk. I'm afraid the only description in English is for the Christianborg event, but dates and distances should be obvious. If you're interested in one or more events, please feel free to ask me for some details in English.
Randers Open Water is a great event (too late for you this year) swimming downstream in Gudenåen. Well organised and nice speed! Vikinge Svøm Roskilde is also a great event (and also too late this year), you cross the fiord, heading for the tower of the Cathedral of Roskilde (Roskilde Domkirke), where former kings and queens are buried.
Hope to see you in Denmark :)

Thank you, Ellen...or should I say Tak!
Actually, I signed up for the Christianborg Round event and will swim the 2000 meters there at the end of August! I haven't been to Copenhagen since 1989 so I cannot wait to be in the city again!

Tak is very fine, thanks.
I can see, that you are going for a 10k swim next year? If you enjoy swimming in the Copenhagen channels, you can sign up for the 10k Round Christiansborg event in 2011. I haven't decided whether to attend the "ordinary" 2 km Christiansborg event or the 10k. Still thinking ;)
