Now this looks fun. What could be more fun than five days of swimming in five different lakes?
The Highland Lakes Challenge is an open water stage race, consisting of five different races over five days in five different lakes in beautiful Texas hill country. The lakes are: Lake Buchanan, Inks Lake, Lake LBJ, Lake Marble Falls and Lake Travis. Distances vary from 2-4 miles.
Swimmers can register to swim individual races, or if you are a sucker for pain, you can sign up for the Monster Challenge: 2-4 mile race per day for five days. They also have a mini challenge, which is a one mile swim in each lake on five consecutive days.
Interestingly, escort kayakers are required in Lake Buchanan, even if doing the one mile race. What, pray tell, is the danger in Lake Buchanan? Kind of scary if you think about it.
