Tried to swim with the Alexandria Masters Swim team today. One important note for when you're moving to a new area: read all the notes about the swim schedule!
According to their website, Saturday practices are at Waynewood pool. A very nice pool, btw, and not too far from the new house (new to us, not to the earth). Nice, rolling drive past the Potomac and a forest. Unfortunately, when I showed up (nice and early so I could meet the coach), the lifeguard told me no masters today due to a swim meet. And not a good, masters swim meet, either. A kiddie one.
A quick check on my cell phone showed me that according to this page, I should have known. Practice today was at Virginia Hills pool. Where is that? I have no idea. And neither did any of the lifeguards or kids' parents.
But, fear not dear reader(s)! I'm a member of the YMCA. So I got a good 41 minutes of swimming in that pool before it closed. One point of contention though. The lifeguard said the pool was only 25 yards per length. But then I Ranger walked it and came up with 100 feet long. So, no matter how I do the math, that don't work out to 25 yards. So...I have no idea how many yards/meters I did (I managed 42 laps in that time).
But, I am back. I'm 44 miles under my goal pace in GTD, so I better get moving. Or, rather, swimming.
