We're back in the states now. It is nice. It is amazing how fantastic it is to be able to get in the car, drive 10-15 minutes to the store, shop for groceries for an hour, get back in the car and back home in 10 minutes. In Moscow, that would be a 3 hour affair. And that was for the grocery store that was only 10KM from our home on the embassy (90 minutes to the store, 12 minutes back).
Further, now I can complete 100 yards or meters with only two laps! instead of the three laps for 100 yards required of my embassy pool. Plus, I can see the bottom of the pools I've been swimming in here. And there's been no blue tint to any part of my body.
I've joined a masters team, first time since 2005. I've been a member of USMS for years now, but I've been "unattached," meaning I haven't been attached to a particular team. But now I'm part of the Alexandria Masters team.
So far the team is great. I've only gone twice, since I've both been in Texas and gotten sick. But today was wonderful. Incredibly hard workout that I didn't have to come up with! Perfect. And my lane-mates are great. In fact, there is a Russian guy that I've swum with, who's from one of the small cities in Russia that I've traveled to (coincidence?). So I get to practice my Russian while trying to catch my breath.
So happy to be coached again.
