It comes in waves. Well, it doesn't come unbidden. I did ask for it. I was hemming and hawing over it for days, weeks, a couple months.
Yes, I registered for END-Wet, a 26.7 mile (yes, longer than a foot-race marathon) marathon swim down the Red River on the border of North Dakota and Minnesota. Crazy, I know. But when I read a race review like this, I just feel like I have to swim it!
Yes, I had to delay my big swim this year, and yes, this 26+ mile swim is longer than my big swim woudl have been. But, it is also a lot cheaper. Only $250 and that gets me a kayaker the entire swim, and the party and gifts and food and I hear there'll be beer.
The wonderful community of marathon swimmers on the forum MarathonSwimmers.org have come together. Many of us are going to stay in the same hotel, close to the start/party, and hang out. It'll be the first time for some of us to have met...how do the kids say it?...in real life (LMIRL). Some of the forumites have even offered up rides from the airport! What a wonderful bunch of folks.
So, long swim days ahead!
